Biz New Orleans
To Bitcoin, or not to bitcoin? That is the question. Whether it’s a phantom supply of currency, or one that could lead to outrageous fortune…
Richard Carthon, the founder and principal of cryptocurrency and blockchain education platform Crypto Current, is hosting New Orleans’ first-ever cryptocurrency and blockchain conference on Friday, March 15, at the New Orleans Jazz Market, 1436 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd., from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Silicon Bayou News
The Silicon Bayou 100 is a list of one hundred most influential people in Louisiana’s startup scene over the last year compiled by the community through an anonymous nomination process.
After narrowing down the submissions, we compiled the top 100 names and revealed them at the Silicon Bayou 100 Release Party last night at The Drifter Hotel in New Orleans.
As COO of Astra, Richard co-leads the fundraising, investor relations, and business coordination. In addition, he is responsible for bringing Astra to the forefront of cryptocurrency and blockchain thought-leadership by promoting financial literacy in the form of various educational content and media, while also creating the first cryptocurrency conference of New Orleans.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Richard Carthon the creator of FollowMyCal. His platform is a social calendar that centralizes your personal, professional, and social events into one location. A serial entrepreneur at 24, Richard has successfully created a tech company without knowing how to code or having a technical co-founder. He quit his corporate job to embrace the life of entrepreneurship, and is not looking back!
Nola Tech 30
Meet 24-year-old Shreveport native, Richard Carthon. This young entrepreneur turned a dream into a hustle, and his hustle, FollowMyCal a mobile app into a business, yet still manages to find the time to function in the role of COO for a New Orleans based cryptocurrency fund.
A successful entrepreneur at just 24, Richard Carthon talks business, religion, family and Barack Obama – and why the people around you are so important in life.
Richard Carthon had aspirations to be a lawyer and a professional athlete while studying business law and business management at Tulane University in New Orleans. However, his entrepreneurial calling in life proved stronger – especially his desire to be CEO of his own company.
The Black Professional
One of our youngest entrepreneurs is 24 year old Richard Carthon, a native of Shreveport LA. “I was a student at Tulane University and a dual sport (Football/Baseball) athlete also involved in 5 organizations on campus. I lived by my calendar and if it was not on there, then it did not exist. I was balancing three different calendars on different platforms and I did not find a seamless solution to put everything in one place. So, I decided to create a platform to do just that my senior year.
In April 2017, FollowMyCal was birthed. We are social calendar platform that helps people centralize their personal, professional, social events in their lives into one location.”
New Orleans Magazine People To Watch
We define a Person to Watch as someone doing something new and interesting worth giving attention. In some cases it might be someone who has already been watchable but that is moving in a new direction. (Our list has not been flawless. Over the years there have been a few that have wound up in jail, but that only validated our thesis that they should have been watched.) Most of our selections, however, achieve the greatness that we had anticipated, or greater. How will this class do? We’ll be watching.
KSLA News 12
SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
Richard Carthon is a young man who's done we'll for himself and he's only 23-years-old.
He's a Shreveport native who was an all-around athlete at C.E. Byrd high school. He was a student at Tulane University which led him to become a CEO of his own company.
Richard Carthon was attending a meeting for his business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi (AKPsi), as a senior at Tulane University where one of his fraternity members presented a challenge to the group to come up with a new idea every day for a month.
About a week later, Carthon was organizing the fraternity’s fundraising and community events when he was frustrated by the difficulty to manage all of the group’s social calendars. He thought there should be a better way to streamline the process. Carthon took the challenge to heart, and decided to create one.
